Wood Floors

Other Considerations

Wood can provide warm, timeless, enduring floors or be used as an accent for other flooring options. As a natural product wood has many benefits: renewable, carbon neutral, recyclable, and if locally sourced or reclaimed can contribute to LEED.

Helpful Tips

  • MoistureWood flooring should not be installed in areas that could be exposed to moisture.
  • Climate ControlWood flooring should be installed after the building is climate controlled and should be permitted to acclimate per manufacturer's recommendation (should be within 4% moisture content difference from substrate for plank widths less than 3", and within 2% for plank widths greater than 3").
  • TransitionsTransitions to other flooring types should be detailed in specifications and considered due to potential floor elevation differences.
